Community Connect

This month’s Community Connect highlight is the FASD Network Saskatoon.

What is FASD? Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a diagnostic term used to describe impacts on the brain and body of individuals prenatally exposed to alcohol. It is a life-long neurodevelopmental disorder causing mild to severe impairment in physical, cognitive, sensory and behavioural development.

About FASD Network

The FASD Network is a community-based, provincial organization with offices in Saskatoon and Regina. The organization continues to work towards the mission laid out by its founders “to enhance the lives of people impacted by FASD”. Through support, training, and events the Network provides services to and education across the province.

The Network provides a range of direct support services for individuals with FASD and their caregivers across the province. Support Workers work alongside individuals to help them build skills, access community resources, and increase independence. These supports are flexible and personalised, focusing on the strengths and goals of each individual. The organization offers specialized services to assist clients, both adults and youth, who have involvement with the justice system or with Child & Family Programs.

Caregivers can also receive support through one-on-one guidance, help with system navigation, and connections to relevant services. The Network recognises that caregivers often face challenges in accessing appropriate resources, so their approach aims to reduce isolation and provide practical, ongoing assistance.

Additionally, the Network offers group-based programs for both individuals with FASD and caregivers. These groups create opportunities for peer support, skill development, and social connection. For professionals or community members seeking to better understand FASD, the Network provides consultations and tailored training to help improve service delivery and build capacity in other sectors.

How to support FASD Network

  • Come to FASD Network events to learn more about FASD. By spreading positive, accurate information about FASD, people can help change the lives of those impacted by the disability.

  • Volunteer on the organization’s board by downloading an application at saskfasdnetwork.ca.

  • Donate on CanadaHelps.org or send cheques to #302-39 23rd St East, Saskatoon. Any donations go straight into programming and services for individuals impacted by the disability.

Follow the FASD Network on Facebook, Instagram, and visit their website to learn more and keep up-to-date with events.

Album of the Month

This month we feature dead ex girlfriends, a 4-piece grunge and punk band hailing from Treaty 6 territory. They've just released their debut full-length album, take me to the afterparty to much fanfare. Have a listen and crank this one up!

Album contains explicit language

CFCR acknowledges that we broadcast from Treaty 6 Territory, the homeland of the Cree and Métis Nations, and the traditional territories of the Dene, Saulteaux, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota. We pay our gratitude to the First Nations and Métis people who have called this ancestral land home for generations, and whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our community. On a foundation of reconciliation, recognition, and respect, CFCR is committed to reaffirming relationships with one another, and to establishing new ones.
